How a Wi-Fi site survey works

  1. Set up where an access point would go

Working from your scaled floor plans, a battery-powered access point goes where the engineer judges best.

  2. Walk the site, measure everything

Heat mapping software logs readings from a laptop at regular intervals across the whole area in range.

  3. Move it, repeat, listen for interference

The access point moves on until the entire site is surveyed, while spectrum analysis checks the Wi-Fi bands for anything competing with your network.

  4. One combined heat map, in your report

Every position merges into one map, delivered with photographs of each proposed access point location and a bespoke written solution.

Why choose DW WiFi?

Results you can act on, and the experience to turn them into a design that works in your building.

High quality results

Our survey reports give you a detailed and comprehensive set of results.

  • Heat maps of Wi-Fi signal strength, coverage, throughput and channel overlap.
  • Spectrum analysis of the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi bands, to identify bandwidth utilisation and any potential sources of interference.
  • Comprehensive documentation, including ‘best practice’ installation guidelines.

Spectrum analysis shows what is using the airwaves, including interference that is not Wi-Fi at all.

Expertise

DW WiFi is an expert in Wi-Fi systems and services for complex wireless networks, with over 20 years of developing and deploying them.

Reliability

Whatever your business, you need a reliable wireless network. Poor coverage gives a bad user experience and costs time, and in venues where you provide Wi-Fi to customers, it shapes their whole experience.

Economics

We have found time after time that a good survey before you purchase can save you money. A survey or health check makes sure you get the most out of your equipment and reduces downtime.
